Course Objectives

ESOL Program centered around useful communication skills in their oral and written aspects. It also

includes insights into American cultures. The students will be given an ample opportunity to hear English

spoken and to interact with their classmates and the teacher in English. Take advantage of this opportunity.

The School District of Philadelphia ESOL Core Curriculum 1,2,3,and 4 will be taught according to planning and scheduling timeline.

The students' abilities to read, write and above all, speak English will certainly improve with practice.

A language is not a subject you learn about. It is a skill you practice.

By the end of the school year the students are expected to be able to:

1- Understand slowly and carefully articulated conversations on everyday topics, and

2- Express themselves orally and in writing on everyday topics in short sentences.

Assignments:

All assignments whether written or oral, must be completed by the time specified by the teacher

Attendance:

The following attendance policy applies to all students:

1- Unexcused absences will lower a student's grade as deemed appropriate by the teacher.

2- Three or more unexcused absences will result in a grade of F

. 3- Absences from class whether, excused or not, do not release the student from the responsibility for any assigned work.

Tests:

There will be a test at the end of every week. Make-up tests are given only in the event of demonstrably

unavoidable absence or when the student has been officially excused by the school.

Grades:

The grades will be as follow:

100-90 A

89-80 B

79-70 C

69-65 D

Under 65 is F

Sincerely
